Benefits Of Having Handy Pocket Knives While Hunting

It is always advised that one must carry at least a handy pocket knife or a utility knife while hunting. It is not sensible to carry a tactical knife or a survival knife while you go hunting on a small scale, such as when hunting for rabbits, fishing by the mountain, or acquiring other kinds of small game. At times like these, carrying a folding legal pocket knife is the best. For big game, a bigger knife is preferred, while also being used as self-defence. However, a knife is essential.

Keep reading this blog to know more about a few of the benefits of carrying a pocket knife while hunting.

1. Skinning, cleaning and butchering the game

Ideally, cleaning and butchering knives do a better job of cleaning, butchering the meat. However, when you need to stay in the space where you have been hunting, you cannot choose to use multiple kinds of knives. In such cases, it is best to use a smaller, folded utility knife to skin and clean the meat. The small, sharp blade allows you to have more control over the cuts you make on the meat, allowing almost negligible waste.

2. Cutting ropes and ties

If you are setting up a small scale trap, or have used ropes around your camping site, they can be a hassle to clear. Using a pocket knife is apt in these situations. These small-scale utility knives often come in hunting kits along with other essential items when you buy hunting supplies in the UK, Europe and surrounding countries. You could also buy them individually in the same stores that sell the supplies.

3. Removing splinters and thorns

Splinters and thorns are painful and difficult to deal with. They are bound to prick you when you go hunting in the wilderness. A big knife or fingers just won’t do when taking it out; a smaller blade can remove them more efficiently.

4. Multi-use tool

Most utility knives are not just blades and blade holders; they also include tools such as a screwdriver, corkscrew, etc., These tools can come in handy around the campsite or while hunting.

5. Safety and first aid

While a first aid kit can help in treating the wounds, knives can be used during an emergency to clear out the way to treatment.

They can be used for ripping clothes off to clear out the wound, take out objects stuck on wounds, and much more.

Not just animals, often knives help you ward off other humans on the trail or dimly lit streets and alleys too. Even with just a small blade, one can practice self-defence at any time, given they use it well. Thus, carrying a knife while hunting is a great practice.
