The Long And Short Of A Kukri Knife

The main purpose of a Kukri knife is to hunt and skin wild animals. If you get a chance to meet a Gurkha warrior, then do talk to him about the Kukri knife. Traditionally, the Kukri knife was used as a hunting and combat tool. A Kukri forms the heart of a Gurkha. You must have seen the Kukri in many of the Hollywood action flicks. To be honest, Kukri is much more than just a survival knife. It is a tool that describes a Gurkha.

Ideally, a Kukri knife needs to be 40-45 cm (overall length). Also, the length of the blade is bound to vary. The thickness of the blade also varies according to the buyer’s needs and requirements. You can choose from a wide range of Kukri knives in the UK.

Weight is an important factor while getting a Kukri knife made. In order to cut down on the weight, the blade is hollow forged. A fuller can also be created.  Kukris usually feature different types and kinds of fuller. Double fuller and triple fuller are widely preferred. Many new-age hunters also go for Bowie knives

The handle

The handles of Kukris are made using the horns of a water buffalo. Handles made of ivory and metal are also quite popular. The butt of the handle is flared and allows for better retention while undertaking chopping exercises. Most of the handles featurebutt plates and metal bolsters that are made using steel and brass.
Nepalese traditionally use the partial tang, but contemporary Gurkhas also use kukris having full tang. The full tang is used by men serving in the defence forces.

The sharpness

Kukri knives are known for their incredible sharpness. Their sharpness is exactly what makes these knives a potent weapon and tool. If you are a die-hard knife lover and buyer, then the Kukri just has to be a part of your collection.
